The Wareham Hemsbach Society twinned with
The Partnerschaftsverein e.V. Hemsbach

ARISING from the original Purbeck School Exchange visits, which had taken place from 1977, a decision was taken by Wareham Town Council to investigate the possibility of a Town Twinning Link between Wareham and Hemsbach in Germany. As a result of this decision, a delegation of civic dignitories from Hemsbach visited Wareham in 1985 to discuss a formal twinning link between the two towns.

The Twinning Charter was officially signed in 1986 during a civic ceremony in Wareham. This was duplicated at a similar ceremony in Hemsbach the following year.

The aims and objectives of a Twinning between towns are to broaden and enrich communal life in both towns, by developing bonds of friendships between communities, promoting annual exchange visits between individuals, families and schools and encouraging the creation of links between societies and associations within the towns, thereby promoting further exchanges.

The WAREHAM HEMSBACH SOCIETY was formed in 1986. With a regular membership of 50 members, it endeavours to meet these objectives by alternate, annual exchange visits with the Partnerschaftsverein e.V. Hemsbach, regular meetings and activities throughout the year plus involvements with schools in both towns, clubs and associations.

New members are always welcome, so why not become part of our European family and make new friends, both here in Wareham and in Hemsbach.
